Two Oceans Aquarium
The Two Oceans Aquarium is one of the top destinations at the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront.
Visitors should allow a good few hours to explore this fascinating home to over 3000 species from both the
Indian and Atlantic Ocean. From penguins, stingrays, sea horse and incredible translucent jellyfish to diving
with sharks-the Aquarium is the perfect adventure for the whole family- both old and young will be mesmerized
by the varied exhibitions.
The Oceans of Contrast exhibition is divided into an Indian and Atlantic Ocean Gallery. The Indian Gallery
is host to six exhibits of brightly coloured fish and coral that can be found in the warm ocean, while the
Atlantic Gallery exhibits fascinating translucent jellyfish, Knysna seahorse and spider crabs that inhabit
the cold ocean on the east coast of the Cape.
The I&J Exhibit is an enormous tank that holds various shark and stingrays. Visitors can sit and watch
the slow-moving creatures from one of the many resting spots or qualified divers can actually climb in and
swim alongside them. On Sundays visitors can watch the sharks being fed.
The Sappi River Meander is an informative display of how a typical river winds its way from the
mountains to the ocean mouth. This is where various penguins can be found in an environment typical
to their natural habitat. The Aquarium also hosts various events like poetry readings and short movies and documentaries.
It is also a venue for kids parties.
