| Frustrated with DMOZ editors and their corruption? Here is some solutions and my story: 1st of all I like to point out that they can't all be corrupt. The only DMOZ editors guilty of this crime is the ones with their own internet businesses, either in the category you need to be listed in or the editors that own so called SEO businesses. If an editor owns a SEO (Search Engine Optimization) business, they will often send you an e-mail reading like this: Top 10 on Google - guaranteed! All they will do after you parted with your money is to list you on DMOZ with a nice Title and keyword rich description. Once you are at the top you might think that you would stay there as a result of the number of "clicks" you receive. Not so. They will remove your DMOZ listing and you will loose ranking so fast, your head will spin. Most DMOZ editors own businesses in the categories they are editors for. This is specifically the case with the travel industry. Some of the editors own several in one category and only list their own websites or those who don't pose a threat. There is hope. Work hard on you website and make sure you have appropriate links on your site. A very useful tool is WEB SEO. I have been using the free version to find link partners. I also add information to the website everyday and submit the new urls using Googles submit tool. I must be doing something right as I am on page 1 of Google in my category. and this without being listed on DMOZ (they removed my listing when I complained about it being wrong) The Law I have decided to take action in many ways. I first collected all my evidence (forensically), incase they decide to tamper with it prior to our day in court. This is done by experts that save the pages and "date stamp" them so that it can be used as evidence. We contacted our local Department of Trade and industry to find out if this was against the law in our country: It is most illegal: Competition Act, 1988(Act No. 89 of 1998)promotes and maintain competition so that consumers are provided competitive prices and product choices Consumer Affairs (Unfair Business Practices ) Act, 1988 (Act No. 71 of 1988 protects consumers by providing for the prohibition and control of certain business practices. What these DMOZ editors are doing is against the law in almost every country. Check BBB and Cyber Law. Complain to: There are a number of ways to report their crimes: Local government. Ombudsman. How important is it to be listed on the ODP and the guidelines: Under construction |
